Since pictures are worth a 1000 words, what's an avatar (like mine) worth?

On the open market, I would say nothing. Don't be sad, it is a case of overload... you can get an avatar for free and there are lots of them around. And even though we are presented with so many options to select from, most of us end up looking the same. So in reality there is nothing really 'unique' about an avatar. Better to post a picture of your true self and let it speak for itself...

i would say less than 1000 words, since it is not an actual picture. but i would say it is worth many words because it is close to being a picture. but, pictures that are 'worth a 1000 words' also remind people of memories and where they were what they did and such, so of course it will be worth many. your avatar may capture some of these things, such as ur styles, pets, etc. it all depends on the avatar i guess.

Your specific avatar tells me you prefer darker colors. I don't see a colorful hat, or a bright sun in the background. Are you hiding behind sunglasses and hat to the side, even in your avatar? In any case, an avatar can be easily changed if you tire of it or if you decide to brighten it up with a better mood.
