The only time Islam was a "whole" religion when was Mohammed was alive, as soon as he died, they split.

Islam used to be entirely one religion, led by an Islamic Caliphate, which is likely why this is in the Koran. This may actually be in a scroll from the earlier sections of the Koran, which is overruled by the later ones according to Islamic Law. The Shi'ites are the most widely spread group in Islam and dominates Iran and most of Iraq.

Aha! You begin to see the truth of the matter. With any "religeon" you either believe or you dont. Thats why there are so many out there. Even Christianity is fractured because pecause some people would rather rule over others than follow the Word of God.

Just because the Koran, or whatever holy scripture you are looking at, says something, doesn't mean people follow it.
