If you had to do it again, how would you do it differently?

Would you have started earlier? Would you wait till your child was older?

Would you have taken classes instead of teaching your child yourself?

How was your experience?

We live on the lake and I insisted on classes immediately. She was still in diapers and we took them through our local community center.

Today she is 10 and is a fairly good swimmer, enough that I don't fear her trying tubing or water skiing.

I would do it the same the second time around, but perhaps insisting more that she continue the classes.

Should could be Red Cross certified by the time she is in 7th grade and have a decent summer job lifeguarding.

I'm 11 right now..and I think i was 3 years old when I began to swim. My paren'ts would let me go in the deep-end with little floaties on. Just 3 days ago I taught 4 older girls (10-12-13-14) to swim, I know how to teach people to swim..I know CPR, mouth to mouth, and Hemlich..and i told them that, and they didn't have to worry about drowning because I could save them easily.

My son is eight and a great swimmer, he's very confidant in the water.

I had him in swimming lessons at the age of four months, parent and child swim. He has been in lessons ever since. We took lessons together until he reached a certain level and then he went in on his own (not that there was ever an issue, he has always loved the water).

Get them young before they develop a fear of the water.

Well I grew up in Florida. My family, & friends are always at the water,so, it was really easy. My kids were easy, I don't think think I even taught my daughter, it just happened, she watched everybodyelse. My son, took a little longer, in everything. In all, I think the only thing I would have changed was a little more hands on, I mean they are only kids once. You only have 1 chance to teach them things. They pretty much were in the water from birth, so they learned to swim early. I joked my kids were part fish.

in all honesty I have started teaching both my children at the same time, one is 3 years old and the other 18 months old, i think it all just depends on the child, when they are comfortable enough with the water and when you feel comfortable enough teaching them. In my opinion teaching them yourself is the best bet, saves money and they are not overwelmed with the new people around them.

I taught mom and tot swimming classes. they're really to get the youngster delicate with the water. That suggested merely because she is delicate and loves the bathtub does not advise she likes the water. At abode contained in the bathtub is very diverse. I also taught swimming classes from aspect a million to lifeguard classes... the youngsters who had not been to a pool previously and had to go away mummy for the first tome to bypass commence aspect one... they hated it sometimes, it replaced into scary and overseas. i imagine that swimming along with your daughter will be tremendous for her and also you. it really is exciting for her to bypass with mum, exciting so that you'll meet moms of alternative toddlers, it permits you to study suited (and exciting) activities along with your daughter next time you bypass to the lake and that i have self belief it really is needed for toddlers to have social contacts from a mushy age so that they study suited techniques to interact with others.

We had a pool in our backyard. I didn't want him to drown, so I taught him as soon as possible. He was 2 when he was good enough to swim without arm floaties. Looking back on it, he was probably too young, but I didn't want him to drown.
