I would choose the brunch reception, simply because there are so many unique and beautiful things you could do with it. And it would be more memorable because it's completely different.

What do you want? My daughter wanted a picnic. So, we had a picnic. What time of day is the wedding? If it's a morning wedding-have a brunch. If it's an afternoon wedding have a small reception with fingerfoods. If it is late or early evening then go all out and have a dinner. It is the bride and groom's choice, and then you have that thing called a budget. If you have unlimited funds, and would like a big party then do it. But if you want a nice quiet time then a brunch or small reception would be better for you. I wish you all the luck in the world. Make it your's and his's special day no matter what you do....

What kind of reception do you both want? Are you the big celebration type or would something small and low key be more in line with your personality? What kind of budget do you have for the wedding? A big reception will cost a lot more than a small brunch.

Usually a Friday reception (even an evening reception) will be less expensive than a Saturday reception. However, keep in mind your guests, too. A Friday brunch isn't going to be very convient for people who have to work on Friday. At least with a Friday evening reception, they wouldn't need to take the whole day off work.

Review your budget. Some people get married on Friday and then have a Brunch the next morning or even the morning they will be leaving on their honeymoon. Calling the reception site and asking what the price difference is between a reception and a brunch would also be another good place to start.

Good luck!

It all depends on how much money you want to spend. Are you paying for the wedding and the reception? Or are your parents? If you are, the budget is totally in your hands. If your parents are, I would discuss it with them as well. I know the brides parents are supposed to pay, but that isn't any reason to take them to the cleaners over it.

Doing a brunch is just great, make sure you have plenty of food. The people are there to be with you on your special day, the food is just something extra they can appreciate.
