Because life is tough. It's difficult and it throws a lot of challenges at you, and people tend to ask what the point of it all is. Why work for 50 years of your life? Why make all the effort to build a home? Why obey laws? Why even try at all? In less than a century, you'll be dead. Life on its own without the specialness that we've given it through religion is probably the saddest thing in the world.
This is when religion comes into play, and is exactly why it is a crutch or wheelchair for people.
Basically, adding the concept of an Afterlife - both a heaven and a hell - give people the benefit of knowing that there is more and that its worth putting the effort in to living a good life because after this Earth there is something waiting for you.
Consider God and religion the antidepressant of ancient times. It worked great to bring more joy to life, but it only works for some - the people willing to let themselves be tricked into thinking it does anything at all.

For some it isn't considered a crutch. Some would say that you are scared to embrace god.
I however believe that most people want to be left to their own ends. The religious as well as the non religious and the atheists. It comes down to this. I don't need to see god to believe in him. Some people do and therefore don't acknowledge him because of lack of physical proof. Some don't care either way.
As for a crutch I don't believe that is accurate statement. Just because I don't need to see proof of him to believe doesn't mean I use it as a crutch to explain the unexplainable. If you look at some of the best known scientist in the world you'll find that many of them are the biggest believers in god. Yet they still look for the answers that many use to try to explain God into nothingness.
Is it a crutch or have they seen something that we haven't. That is simple faith.

It's not about that. It's not just some fantasy that we make up, obviously we don't believe that. We have to really believe in our religion to be comforted by it right? God is our crutch, and if we really thought of it as an imaginary friend type of thing then it wouldn't really help much right? Come on, that's not such a great question, you know...

Death is scary.
Life is scary.
Many people need something to believe in just to get out of bed.
Religions fills many of these fears so people feel they are loved and will have somewhere to go when they die..
____________________________________________________
The people that use religion are a crutch are those that have no faith in anything. Not even religion. If you notice, those that uses Religion as a crutch are the ones that SHOUT the loudest to drown out anything but their own voices instead of showing by example; Criticize and judge others when the Jesus specifically told them not to (... he who has no sin....); Hold the longest and worse grudges; Lastly, but not least, the ones that will use every verse out-of-context when they are losing a discussion on Christianity.

So which do you believe we have a wheelchair or a crutch? You will die someday and be dead for a very long time. Since you don't believe that there is a God you and those who believe as you do are the saddest of all.. When it's over it's over.. Christians believe this is just the beginning.. It's like you worship death.. that is sad

a lot cant help it poor things they caught the virus and there done for now
CHRISTIANITY= VIRUS OF THE MIND
Â
Christianity is basically nothing more than an extremely efficient virus of the mind.
Since they emanate from humans and therefore have an organic component, all ideas have a survival instinct just like their human progenitors, and will seek to propagate themselves into as many human hosts as possible. Now of course some ideas are beneficial to their human hosts, but not all.
Christianity is one of those malignant versions. Of course, the long-term life expectancy of its human hosts is beneficial to the Christian mind virus since it allows more propagation, but ultimately the survival of its human hosts is irrelevant, as demonstrated throughout history in wars with competing religious viral "memes" (ideas).
Need proof? Just look at the evangelical nature of Christianity. Christianity drives its adherents to "spread the word" through human-to-human contact...just like a virus spreads.
And what is a "word" anyway? Nothing more than the spoken or written expression of an IDEA. The Christian Bible even ADMITS that God is nothing more than an IDEA..."In the beginning was the WORD, and the WORD WAS GOD", remember?
Need more proof? Ever wonder why the Catholic Church opposes birth control and abortion? It's not because abortion is murder, because throughout history the Catholic Church has either endorsed murder (Crusades, Inquisition) or turned a blind eye to it (Holocaust). No, it's because THE MORE UNEDUCATED, POOR, IGNORANT SOULS THAT ARE BORN INTO POVERTY AND MISERY ON THIS PLANET, THE GREATER THE CHRISTIAN MIND VIRUS' CHANCES OF SURVIVAL.

If you feel that way then forget about it. I wouldn't consider it a wheel chair. I've had such a difficult time with it, that it's almost been a stumbling stone for me. I would see it as more of a hard-love kind of learning experience. Apparently once you get to a certain point, things work better.

You may call it a wheelchair in your carnal opinion...But GOD and the believers who follows Christ knows it as being Redemption, Salvation, Deliverance, Restoration, Miraculous Healings, Miracles, Special Blessings, Strength, Peace Of Mind, and much more!..........so if you want to call it a 'crutch'...then fine with me!....your opinion!...... myself as well as hundreds of thousands of other Believers are enjoying our (as you call it) "Crutch"......Works for us!......This is a religious/spiritual site and if you are offended or dislike the way Believers Love & Serve Their GOD, their are other sites you may feel more compatible with!.....Surly you don't want these pepole who are religiously disable in a wheelchair and using crutches to rub off on you!.....

i agree. Thats why ppl need to find the spirituality within. Religion is a man made doctrine. When you have a personal relationship with God you dont have to abide by man made religion to tell you how to live and you dont have to go through some else to ask for forgiveness.
