Death. It happens to everyone, and someday it will happen to me. I fear this greatly. I do belive in god, but I wouldn't call myself a complete christian, although I do go to church sometimes and learn about the lord christ. I am an honest person, I stay out of trouble and try to treat everyone nice. But alot lately, Death has been on my mind. I do not want to die ever, but I know the time will come. And sometimes for me it's like watching a clock count backwards. It almost seems like torture to me. I am afraid of how I will die, and what will happen to me after I die. Will it hurt? Will, (after I die,) It will turn into the way it was when I wasnt born. Nothingness, and stay that way forever? And if that's the case what is the perpose of being here? To me, it's horrible that we have to die. And even more horrible to know that anyone can take life away from you and not care. Is it ok to fear death? Is it natural to think about it daily? To me, the fear of death is a horrible torture

It's a normal fear.
And it's a completely logical fear. And that's the worst and damned-est thing about fears which are logic - that they make such perfect sense and you do have a sound reason to be afraid.
When I was little I had this fear too. It was overwhelming, terrifying! It was paralyzing. But then I kind of overcame it when I became a teenager.
I think that this fear ( just like any other fear) is a choice. - Yes, EVERYBODY dies. There's no exception. And absolutely NOTHING you can do about it. So, your choice is - to think about it or not to think. The more focused you are on the fear / reason that causes the fear, the more paralyzing it becomes. It's one of those games we, humans, like to play with our own minds. We do like to torture ourselves sometimes. These fears which are based on an obvious reason are just a perfect torture instrument.
I am a Christian too. but I do not know if there is an afterlife. So, I have this one only. Thus I'd better enjoy the span I've been measured. And that's what I would suggest you enjoy your life while you can and do not spoil it by fearing inevitable... But then, again, it's all up to you.

Silverfox...the fear of death is natural and very human...it's OK to fear death. However, it sounds more like you're obsessed with death and the idea of dying...there must be a greater thing going on in you than just 'fear'. One might even say you're phobic about death (called necrophobia). I've copied a couple of websites that may be of help to you. You mention that you consider yourself to be not quite a Christian, yet you speak of the Lord Christ. Maybe there's a connection between these two things in your mind that a mental health professional may help you to figure out...or, if you have a regular church that you go to, contact the minister there.

I think it's natural to fear death. Most people have a fear of the unknown and death is a good example of this. It seems like you are getting in the habit of focusing on death too much to the extent that it may develop into a problem.
You also seem to like life so much so how about focusing on the fact that you are alive right now.

I now what you're feeling. I've always been worried about death even if I am a Christian and know God. He states that we should not be afraid of death but still thinking about it gets me scared. But I don't anymore since I know that nobody doesn't have any guarantees and we're going to die someday anyway. I know that death is scary but I believe that death is only the beginning of a wonderful life in Heaven and this earth is not our home. We just have to make the best of our life here and tell as many people as possible to be able to know God. God loves us and he knows the day of our death. If it's tomorrow or even one-hundred years from now, it is up to him and you just have to trust him because he knows what he is doing. I think it is important to know what the Bible really teaches about death. Once you know the truth about death, it's not so scary.

After Solomon observed that the living know that they will die, he wrote: “As for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all.” He then enlarged on that basic truth by saying that the dead can neither love nor hate and that “there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in [the grave].” (Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6, 10) Similarly, Psalm 146:4 says that when a man dies, “his thoughts do perish.” We are mortal and do not survive the death of our body. The life we enjoy is like the flame of a candle. When the flame is put out, it does not go anywhere. It is simply gone

The Bible also promises a resurrection. The question is, who will be resurrected? Jesus said that “all those in the memorial tombs will hear his [Jesus’] voice and come out.” (John 5:28, 29) Similarly, Revelation 20:13 says: “The sea gave up those dead in it, and death and Hades gave up those dead in them.”
(“Hades” refers to the common grave of mankind. )

Perhaps you shouldnt be concerned about deathbut how you live your life until that happens. It isnt very normal to be daily preoccupied with death. It's a part of life. Live every day of your life in a eay that leaves you with no regrets. Do something with every single day. Of course it's ok to fear death buat dont let the enevitable cast a shadow over your life.

You shouldn't live life fearing death. Death is only a passing from this life to the next. Try not to think of it as an end and it won't be so scary.

I had someone tell me once the whole reason people fear anything is they fear death. I think that is wrong but why fear it sooner or later it is going to happen. Just make sure that you live life to the fullest and there is nothing to fear.

its ok to fear a painful death - after all pain is the nervous system's way of gently letting you know that you shouldn't have allow yourself to be skewered by a big pointy stick.

but to fear death itself? Its something that is as inevitable as it is universal.

My advice would be to fear a bad life, rather than a bad death.

If you think about it daily, perhaps you should see a therapist, and uncover the deeper fear.

But fearing death is perfectly sane. If it wasn't something to fear, we would not be exhorted by "O Death, where is thou sting?", nor would Jesus have said "I am the Resurrection, and the Life ... he who believes in me ... "
