Coffee is roasted and brewed for drinking - you aren't consuming the actual bean. Regular beans you consume and as it is broken down in your digestive track a chemical reaction causes gasses to be released causing flatulance (farting) Coffee will stimulate the digestive process though. And if anyone has had some really strong, bad, coffee- you know what I mean when I say one sip will send you running to the bathroom.

Beans contain appreciable amounts of non-digestible oligosaccharides (rafinose, stachiose, etc.) which are fermented in the large intestine with an abundant release of gases. Coffee is not related to beans and does not contain those compounds. It's a coincidence that the term "beans" is used in "coffee beans".

Because regular beans (the kind you eat) have protein right in them. I don't think coffee beans have as much protein in them as regular beans do. But I could be wrong.
