Why is it that many people consider that a person that is a older virgin (say in their late 20s, early 30s) that if they were a virgin by choice, that it is somehow harder and more honorable than a person of the same age that was a virgin but NOT by choice?

Example

Some people think

1) Oh I'm 30 and still a virgin by choice

Well you should be very proud! It’s very hard.

2) I'm 30 and still a virgin, I just never got the chance

Eh........(*rolls eyes)

It’s not that hard to find a prostitute you know.

I think a lot of people find that it's harder to remain a virgin by choice because there are so many temptations and opportunities out there, which are sometimes very difficult to resist. Opposed to someone that was never tempted, and didn't have to fight off that temptation. It's easier to go without what is never offered to you. Also, most people would think that a 30 year old that WANTED to have sex, but couldn't, there must be something wrong with them... Not necessarily true, but that's the perception.

Because the things in this world are only honorable if they're intentional. Another reason society is so screwed up.
