I personally think that the child should be old enough to decide for themselves when and if they want to get their ears pierced!

Circumcision is done for health and cleanliness though, getting their ears pierced is just cosmetic.

Great question.
Someone said as long as they don't pierce noses or etc, think about it.
It's piercing and it's acceptable b/c it's a more familiar area?
You people are wierd.

Piercing a child's ear should be considered S I C K. How od you know if the child remembers or not? I have heard magnificent stories about chidlren remembering things when they were 2 days young or in the womb.

Your child is not a doll. Why does a baby need its ears peirced anyway? Cause it looks cute? S I C K.
Piercing is a choice. And if it's in the nose, on the tongue, in the ear as long as they are of age and it's done in sanitary.

Enough said.

I am not sure where I stand on it, I personally have 10 piercings and they are not all in my ears. So its not like I am AGAINST piercings, but I don't know if I would want to pierce my child's ears and then have the kid upset later on because they don't like them.

I guess she could always take them out.

My husband on the other hand has told me many times that if we have a daughter that he wants to pierce her ears. He thinks its the cutest thing in the world. So more than likely we will do the piercing, but it will be at the doctor's and no the mall.

Think of it this way: the piercings can always heal if the child doesn't want them. I got my daughter's pierced when she was 9 months old. They healed faster, they were easy to take care of, and she didn't mess with them. She's almost 2 1/2 and loves her earrings. She says she has "pritty" ears. Personally, I don't see how it's anyone's business. She is MY child. I paid for her ears to get pierced. I clean them. I buy her earrings. I had mine done when I was 6 months old. I'm 20 and not only still have the original piercings, I have an additional 4 in my left ear and 3 in my right ear.

edit-I just saw your comment about the baby getting their earrings ripped out. I got my daughter's pierced with safety backs. I have a hard time getting them off of her so I'm sure it's not going to get ripped out. When you get a baby's ears pierced, they don't pull at them. Why would you want someone around your baby that would try to rip her earrings out anyway?

I got mine done when I was 2 months, and again when I was 10 years. Well I am sure it hurt like hell both times, but I only remember it from when I was 10!!!

In other words, I am going to do it for my soon-to-be daughter right after her first shots. If she doesn't like it when she gets older (though I have never heard of that), then she can take them out. But if she does like it, I will have saved her a day of pain.

And how is it your business if people get THEIR babies ears pierced? It's not like they're beating or starving them or something!! If you don't want your kid's ears pierced, don't do it. But if you didn't make or give birth to that baby, shut up.

i don't agree with it personally, however it is their right to do so if they choose. i wont get my daughters ears pierced till she is old enough to decide just because when they are baby's there is a chance of them pulling an earring out, a sibling pulling an earring out and things like that. i don't want it to be my fault that my baby has a riped ear lobe.

i dont think babies should get there ears pierced. They should get them once there old enough to take care of them and if they actually want them! I have a friend who pierced her daughters ears and now that she is 8 years old, she HATES earrings. She wishes her mother wouldnt of made her get them pierced.

only after they are a year should they be pierced. i had mine done at 10 16 17 18. 4 holes per ear. then there was the tongue at 27. if u want to wait make them part of the decision.

I agree with you, altho getting them pierced younger you don't remember the pain, altho i had mine pierced at 8. It didn't hurt too bad!
Some girls i know don't even want their ears pierced and i think if you wait till they are older, it helps them with responsibility! They have to take care of their ears and such!
Thats my view!

I think it's great. It looks absolutely darling and most people who have their baby's ears pierced do it at a doctor's office or a sterile clinic. I had mine done at 9 months and as I got older, I wanted more, and have had 3 more done on each side through the years. No harm done by my parents, if you ask me!

Tradition maybe? I got mine pierced as a baby and I'm happy I don't remember what it feels like. If a girl doesn't want to wear earrings when she gets older- she doesn't have to.

I pierced my daughters ears- she looks very cute with her tiny studs. They stop crying after it's done anyway.
