My 14 year old brother is going to camp next week. My mom and I want to paint his room and make it look nice. Years ago, when I was in the room that is now my brother's, I put some gooey glow-in-the-dark stickers on the window, and now I can't get them off. Is there anything I might have already in my house that could dissolve them or make them easier to scrape off, or do I need to go out and buy some heavy duty stuff?

Woo! Lots of answers and it's only been 2 hours! Thank you everyone! I'm going to try a few of the easier ways (nail polish remover seems like the most popular idea) and if that doesn't work, I'll try the stuff I have to buy. Thanks again!

I've always had luck with fingernail polish remover. If the stickers are that old, you may have to go to a hardware store for something a little stronger.

Try fingernail polish with Acetone... but be careful... if the windows are made of plastic (not glass) the acetone might cloud it, so test it in a corner first.

Also, you could try Goo Gone. It's cheap, you can buy it at your local pharmacy or hardware store. Saturate the stickers with Goo Gone, let it sit for a bit and then go at it with a razor blade. Keep a rag handy to wipe away the scrapings. Again, if your window is plastic based, you might want to test the razor blade scratching in a corner to make sure you're not going to permanently scrape the middle of the window.

I used to have to remove price tags off of shelves in the store I worked for. Try using a little bit of lighter fluid on a dry cloth, rub the sticky stuff with the cloth soaked in lighter fluid the use a razor blade from an exacto knife to remove the stickers. The lighter fluid will prevent the sticker from being so gummy when you are trying to remove it. Just remember not to have any flame around the lighter fluid and if you smoke, wash your hands thoroughly before lighting up. Throw away the cloth when you are done and keep wiping the razor blade as you peel the stickers off.

One website says to use "alcohol-based products such as nail polish remover or 91-percent rubbing alcohol. Oil-based products such as cooking oil, mineral oil and baby oil can also be used. Apply the liquid to a clean cloth and saturate the sticker; allow it to sit for a minute or so and peel the sticker from the surface."
Heloise says, "Don't rub or scrub; simply cover the sticker with a light oil, like baby, mineral or vegetable, and let set overnight. Lift one corner and slowly pull off. This usually works well. Some people like to soak the item in hot water, and that often works also. A third option if the surface is glass or metal (not wood, etc.) is to spray with a lubricating spray, let set and remove."
I personally would try Goo-Gone.

Try using a hair dryer to initially remove the stickers. Then, you can use rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover with a razor blade to scrape off the gooey residue.

Nail polish remover and elbow grease. When we moved into this house there were stickers all over the bathroom mirror and I used nail polish remover after I had gotten as much of the paper off as I could and it worked great. Best wishes

Your best bet would be to use Goo-Gone. Just dab some on the sticker and rub with a paper towel. You may need to reapply it once or twice, but this should take it right off the window. Then just wash the window and your good to go.

use a hair dryer on hot, then with a putty knife, razor blade or sharp flat surface. heat the sticker's edge and use the edge to slowly push under the sticker. this should lift off both the sticker and glue off the window. if any glue is left on the window use a spray bottle with water in it (why poison yourself with stinky chemicals) wet the glass around the remaining glue and or sticker and slowly scrape it off.
