I've always wondered if there are certain ways to point it out.

Here's an interesting idea, lol:

you can understand exactly what they are saying and can repeat it perfectly... :)

Listen closely and see if they are consistent. If they say a certain word one way sometimes and another way at another time, you can tell it's not natural for them to talk that way. Also, if they get nervous or excited, then they might fall back onto their original way of talking because they can't pay attention to their pronounciation. Ask them where they are from, then listen to people from wherever they say and see if they talk the same way. I know 2 people who talk with fake accents and it's SO pretentious!
