I want to thank everyone for responding with such thoughtfulness, keep them coming! I live in Canada and am concerned about the growing crazyness of this Communist Country!

It is highly doubtful unless we invade their country or launch a military campaign, both of which are unlikely due to the presence of nuclear weapons, their large military and our lack of military preparedness for such a campaign. But it is worth noting that people think they know what drives Kim Jong Il but in truth nobody does. North Korea is such a closed country and there is still a lot we don't know about their government, their thinking and what some of their ulterior motives are. To call Kim crazy is not completely accurate because we simply just don't know and plenty of people in other countries think the same thing about our president because of the dumb things he says, his let's invade now and figure out what the hell to do later way of handling things and some of the other blunders he's made during his time in office. So I am hoping that Bush doesn't try and be a cowboy and handle this the same way he's handled other nations he put in an axis of evil which might be one of the stupidest things he's ever done. There is a fine line between thinking something like that and saying it in front of the press. He doesn't have much tact and I think his thought process is tremendously one-sided and he no longer has the political capital he did after 9/11 to do whatever he wants which so far hasn't turned out so well for us. We are in Iraq for an indefinite amount of time and for what? He promised we wouldn't do nation building during the 2000 debates but obviously we are so it's hard to take him at his word.

No...not unless and until it becomes absolutely necessary. NK is still developing it's weapons systems and we need to go full throttle with SDI. In the meantime we can not allow him to continue with these games. Imagine if he did have a reliable delivery system and he just continued firing these duds our way regularly....then suddenly one day they aren't duds. What a great way to inflict maximum damage while sustaining minimal loss. No, I'm sure any action we take will involve conventional weapons.

zerocool2925 So you don't like our president saying that North Korea was part of an "axis of evil" ? Why not...you afraid they'll get their feelings hurt? Ok, I'll say it..THEY ARE PART OF AN AXIS OF EVIL.!! Did you learn anything in obtaining your political science degrees besides pc?

oops....once again i missread the question...no..north korea doesn't have the capability at this time...if they could...who knows what that nutcase would try? i would hope they realize that would be suicide.

At least we have a missle defense system that may be able to prevent a small number of missles from reaching the United States. For those whom are against the US having a missle defense system; is it better to have a system that can stop all or some of the missles that N. Korea or Iran could potentially launch at the US; or is it better to have no system at all? Think about your answer, millions of lives could be at stake.

Only if they thought that Russia and China would defend them from a counter strike. I still think the other two superpowers are encouraging North Korea to do these test. Lets face it, no matter what we do, the rest of the world still hates us and our way of life.
We should stop the humanitarian aid to the rest of the world and take care of ourselves.

Eventually, yes. I think Kim Jong-Il is just crazy enough to do it. While he starves his population and creates new ways for the people to worship and praise him, he's spared no expense for WMDs & he lacks the value of human life necessary to talk him out of it.

But he'll likely attack Japan first. He has the WMDs and the missiles capable of reaching Japan.

Call it a "pre-emptive strike" against a perceived threat, if you wish.

No. A nuclear showdown with the U.S. would assure the annihilation of their tiny nation. They might take out a couple of our cities but they would have nothing left to rule after multiple strikes from the U.S.

Let's hope not. Because their WMD's could DEFINITELY reach and DESTROY the US territory of Guam, my home. Which is also home to tens of thousands of US military members. Unfortunately, N Korea has always been a ticking time bomb, all we can do is hope and pray they don't.
