I checked rootsweb.com and came up with a small number of Sepanek surnamed people on WorldConnect:
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/

The interesting thing is that the immigrant ancestor of most of these people has the name, Szepanek.... a "z" added to the name. In WorldConnect he is said to have been born in "Germany."

I then went to http://www.familysearch.org and tried Szepanek rather than Sepanek. Several people listed were born in either "Germany" or "East Prussia" (Ostpreussen) which is now part of Poland and Russia.

The name, Szepanek, is not a Germanic language looking name. But, as an example, my mother-in-law's maiden name was Hlavaty which is a Czech name yet the family had been German speaking and considered itself German for many years before they left for America.

My best to you

Bill

It is apparently Hungarian. See source below. There appears to a reference to an Erno Sepanek in an article. I hope that helps to get you in the right direction.
