Depends. Do you want it to be a watchdog? If so. my answer would be no. The more you let people touch it, the friendlier it will be.I've had my dog since he was 6 weeks old, and I keep him away from people. It's made him very protective of me which is what I wanted. But he is also very good with kids that come to my house on a regular basis. Not so much with adults though.
On the other hand, you may WANT a friendlier dog. If so, by all means allow people to pet it.

It is very good that so many people want to help you socialize your dog. The important thing is that they know the correct way to approach a dog. Make sure the dog is very aware of their presence and that they offer a hand the dog can sniff before immediately petting it. You will have to tell people this, I do all the time. Any dog caught off guard by someone coming up and petting it has the potential to bite. I take my dogs to every social situation I know of and ask people to pet them. I have even stood outside Wal-Mart and asked people coming in and leaving the store to pet my dog. It is great socialization for the dog and will make him/her more relaxed around people in general.

It depends on your personal feelings. I have a puppy that is 11 months old now, but when he was 2-3 months old, I would take him everywhere with me just so he could be around other people. If you ask a vet, they will tell you that it is great for a dog to be around 200- 300 people by the time they are 6 months old, it helps them to have a better temperament. They will be much friendlier dogs. This was very important to me because I have kids, and their friends are always around.

Yes I think dogs do need to socialize with other people and other dogs that aren't mean. If your dog is agressive and not nice, then I would not do that. If your dog is pleasant then I would. It will help your dog become better with people and other dogs alike. I will say this though dogs like to run in packs and that behavior of domination may come out of your dog, but not to worry just make sure you are in control

As long as the dog is well behaved and not prone to biting then of course you should. Socialization is a key part of traing any dog they need the attention. Again just be sure that your pup will not bite you don't want the lawsuit. Goog luck

It depends on you and your dog. Does your dog have temperment issues? Is your dog agressive at all? Does your dog get along with children? Also if you really want people to be able to pet your gorgeous dog then maybe you'd want to sign you and your dog up for Therapy Dog Training. Therapy Dogs International (TDI) is a great organization. Our Husky worked for many years through them going to hospitals and such.

As long as the dog is OK with it and you have the time. If your dog is shy, tell people: "He's shy with people he doesn't know" If you don't have time, just tell them "He's in a hurry today, sorry!"
