if those are the cars you are considering, I would go with the escort. those cars run great ! great on gas and will last you a long time without major repairs. good luck!

I would recommend buying a Sentra/Corolla . You can drive those until the wheels fall off, and you can expect at least 32 mpg on the highway, 20+ in the city.
I purchased a Nissan product brand-new and didn't have to do much of anything until 125,000 miles, and then I had to replace the radiator, probably only because I didn't flush it like I should have.

I would say an escort. I had an escort for about four years and it was great. I never had any problems until I slammed into someone who pulled out in front of me. The escort is great, no trouble, good on gas, and you can even get a sporty version of this car.

The best advice I can give is stay away from Ford! Toyota..and larger hondas. Take anything you decide on to be checked by a mechanic. Look up garages and ask them what they would charge to look a used car over before you buy it.

Honda Civics have a good track rating. Reliable and good on gas. Escorts not so much when it comes to being reliable. Subscribe to "Consumers report". It'll help your choices before jumping into anything.

Eew. I wouldn't pick any of the ones you suggested. Maybe go for a Honda or something. Take your time and shop around. GO on test drives. You have to find something you like personally.
Once you narrow it down, do some online reasearch to find out about reliability, etc.

I have to agree with one of the other answers. Stay away from American cars. I have had nothing but bad luck with ford and gm vehicles. In fact i wrote ford a E-mail with my concerns and never heard back from them, tells you what they think of customers feedback.
Please take my advice get a Honda or Toyota, you will have more money in your pocket in the end

Buy a used import!!! They are statistically proven to have the longest life with the lowest maintenance (especially Toyota, and Honda).
