If the car "can" get 22 mpg, that sounds like an EPA highway estimate which is based on travel at 55 mph, the most fuel-efficient speed possible. Round up on this amount if you're planning on going any faster. To calculate the cost of a trip, do the following:
(miles / mpg) * per-gallon cost of gas
Miles over mpg tells you how many gallons of gas you'll use, so all you have to do is multiply by the cost of gas per gallon. For your particular case, that's:
(435.5 / 22) * $3 = $59.32
That's $59.32 each way, or $118.64 roundtrip. I would budget $150 to account for extra gas used on account of speed, passing, city driving, etc. For a site that will do this math for you and lets you control the percentage of city and highway driving you will be doing, visit http://www.fueleconomy.gov and select "find a car."

$59.39 in gas. Are you going to stop for food? Stay the night somewhere?
It doesn't matter if the tires have been rotated or the oil has been changed....22mpg is 22mpg.

How many gallon tank? Does it have new tires or are they rotated? Oil change and filter. Those all play a role in it as well.
