Soak them in water first and chop them one by one. You can also use a onion chopper or buy them already prepared at the store. I chop onions but the way to do it is to chop fast. If I have a load of onions like 6 for example, I will chop three first and the rest after I cut some other veggies. Also you should'nt think about it too much as that brings on the tears.

there are many tips to stop crying while you are chopping onions:
1. chew gum while you chop the onions
2. chop onions in the sink and let the water run
3. do not breath while chopping onions
4. put half an onion on top of your head... this seems to be the most efficient one...
godd luck!

once you weigh down the cells of an onion, you launch a sulfur compound. at the same time as this compound reacts with the moisture on your eyes, it really is going to develop into sulfuric acid, which irritates your eyes. Your eyes then produce tears to flush the sulfuric acid out. you could attempt many tricks to maintain away from crying. Refrigerating an onion for an hour previously you narrow it or slicing the onion less than operating water are some options. Or attempt slicing the onion at the same time as chewing on a chunk of onion or a stick of gum. Your amazing wager, although, might want to be to placed on goggles or glasses to guard your eyes.

Try to use only fresh onions, the older they are the stronger they are. Also refrigerate them, when they are cold they are not as strong.
Breathing through your mouth also helps, you are less likely to irritate your sinuses which will result in less tearing. I have also been told that chewing on ice while chopping can help, but have never tried it.

If you don't have a food processor, freeze the onion for 10 - 15 minutes before slicing, dicing, etc.

Yes.
Fill the sink or a small tub with cold water and cut the onions while they are under the cold water.
That should fix the issue.
Hope that this helps.

You should probably wear glasses. I heard that when you cut onions, the chemicals from them rise up to your eyes, and make them tear, so if you cover up your eyes in some way, you're fine!

make you first cut with a sharp knife then sprinkle the onion with white vinegar before you cut the rest...that usually works for me...or you can keep the onions refrigerated before you cut them...or have a fan blowing right on the area your cutting...the sharper the knife the less onion juice is released hence less tears...good luck
