There are many postal codes in the USA, because there are so many post offices. Unlike most countries, our volume of mail became too much to be limited to one; so we use multiple codes to make delivery more efficient.

Each town has its own postal (zip) code, and most cities have at least 4 or 5 zip codes. The metropolitan areas have 20 sometimes!

What you need to do, if you are trying to complete the addressing of a letter, is to use the website below to find your postal code. If you are sending it to a small town, you can enter only the town. But to be certain, I would recommend writing down as much of the address as you know before pressing submit.

Good luck!

Go to www.usps.com and you can do a zip code look up. You can look it up by address, or just by city.
