If you buy a fax machine with a telephone handset included, you can use one phone line for both.

It would be recommended that you check with your service provider first. This will also depend on what kind of line you have.
If you have a digital line there are certain features that you can get optionally from your service proider. check #1 at bottom.
If you have a VoIP phone then you will need to ask if you line is compatable with the fax option unless your converter equipment is fax compatiable.
Here are the things that you can try before attempting to get a FAX LINE $$$!
#1)
if you do have a digital line then you can ask your provider to add a ringmaster feature that will give you a 2nd number but will have it's own ring. This is not a second phone line and is ussaly free. this option is good if you have regular faxes or few faxes on your line.
if you have heavy faxes then you will need to add a fax feature to your voicemail.
if you don't want to add these features or these features are not available to you, then you could just add a second line. or try efax.com
If you don't want a second line or add features then you can just buy a new fax machine that has an answering machine on it. This way it dosen't start faxing in someones ear. But if it is a fax then it will be printed like it is supposed to be.
If you have a VoIP line then I really cannot help you there. Each VoIP service provider is different and may not work with a fax machine. However some service providers will give you a fax option, but only on request.
Sorry I couldn't help you better but GOOD LUCK and I hope this information helps.

No. A good idea however is to call your local phone company and subscribe to multi ring. You will be provided with a different phone number but it will share the same line as your main number. The great part is that your phone will ring differently when you receive a fax and you can give out a different number for your fax number. This feature is inexpensive it should be less than $5 a month.

A fax machine needs its own line, which costs extra money. If you are in need of a faxing solution try faxing online. There is no need for an extra phone line because the faxes are sent to your email. Its really easy and inexpensive; cheaper than a fax machine. As long as you have standard phone lines, it can share. You can keep your fax machine plugged in all the time. If the phone rings and you pick it up and it is a fax, you just hit the start button on the fax machine and hang up the receiver. I have worked plenty of places that do this. It saves money if you don't get many faxes.

It can share, but you won't be able to use the phone and FAX at the same time. Also, if you have an answering machine on the line, you'll need to make sure its correctly configured to answer before the FAX machine, and then let the FAX machine take over before it attempts to record a message.

it can share with the phone, but u better grab your phone calls before the fax picks up. the fax will also pick up the line before the answering machine, so be careful.

I share my fax with the phone. It will detect when a fax is coming in and receive it.
