An honest answer is that when someone actually gets to a point that they have money, no matter how hard they worked or sacrificed to get it, someone always comes along and wants to borrow some. The easiest way to avoid that is not to deal with those people, and that's taken by many as being snobbish.

Without succumbing to a generalization; our society has drilled it into our heads that money=value. Therefore, these people (not all of them) can feel that they are better than others without having to have any redeeming qualities.

typically people of wealth come from wealth so they have no conception of what is like to have to do without and if you have not been somewhere you can not have empathy.So they assume its a lack of ambition.Also I believe there maybe a bit of fear for them.
