Many dog books will tell you that naming a dog with a 2 syllable name is better because the dog responds to it better. Also names that ends in "y" or "ie" show great response from dogs.
I've noticed many pet owners will name their dogs or cats 1 thing, but end up nicknaming them something else...& funny, but it usually has the "y" or "ie" sound-lol!
Personally, my family has had great success with 2 syllable names that end in "er".
First you should base it on your dogs traits and/or personality.
Is she "Happy", does she 'Smile? "smiley"
Is she snaggle-toothed? "snag or Snaggy"
Does she look like someone you know or resemble a character from t.v., comics or a book? "Sally" (Charlie Brown's sister), "Blondie", "Daphne" (Scoobie Doo)
What color is she? black & white "Oreo", black "sooty", "inky", tri-color "neo" for neopolitan
Did she steal your heart? "snitch"
Use an acronym...is she a "pain in the a--(butt)?"-- "pita"
Is she sharp? "Razor"
Wish she were a kiten? "Kitty"
You just really, really wanted a dog? "Reason"
You'd rather have a dog than kids, so she's like birth control? "B.C."
Does she huff & puff like a tug boat or steam engine? "tug" "tuggy" "shay"
Does she slobber? "sputter", "gush"
What's your favorite vehicle make? "JEEP", mercedes "Benz", "Chevy"
What's your favorite drink? "Whiskey", "Kahlua", "Stoltz"
What's your favorite ice cream flavor? "Rocky" road, "Fossil" Fuel, "Brownie" Fudge
Favorite Actor or Comedian? Ben "Stiller", "Lucy", "Thea" Vidale, Elayne "Boosler"
Does she remind you of a flower? "Daisey", "Calla" Lilly, "Pansy"
Did you travel a long way to get her? "Journey"
Does she act like a queen? "Diva"
Your first bike? "Schwin"
Just have fun & see what suits her, or say some names out loud & see how she responds...she might just pick one out herself!

When we get a new dog, every one in the family picks a name for her and then write them on seperate pieces of paper. The we put the papers in a big circle with the puppy in the middle, the paper she goes to first is her name. My current dog is Sasha, which I think is a good name for a female dog. But I also like Lily, Gabby, & Lexi.
