My father has the exact same problem. He swears by this stuff you can get at Wal-mart called "New Skin". You paint it on like fingernail polish over the cracks and it lets them heal. He loves the stuff.

Burts Bee's has some great products. Eucerin seems to work good as well. Use some very mild soap if you wash your hands a lot and moisturize them afterwards.
