Do they drink bags? Loose leaf? What kind is most popular in GB?

When my parents went to England, they were served loose leaf tea, and apparently had several choices. When Mom commented on how good it was, and wondered why we couldn't get tea this good in the US, the waitress said, "Because the last time we sent it, you dumped it in the harbor!"

Sorry to say, teabags are absurdly popular in England, PG Tips, Brooke Bond, Lipton and the supermarkets own "name-brand" teabags abound, usually used to make tea "in the cup". All the more horrific when you realise the teabag was invented as a way to use up the "finings" or tea powder that was dislodged from the leaves during drying and frementation (sorry, fermentation). But there are still a large percentage of the population that make a "proper" pot of tea, using a real pot, heating it with warm water before use, using loose tea (most often darjeeling or assam), and brewing it the requisite time.

If you are in the US, may I recommend a company called "Upton Tea Imports" where you can buy (mail order) small packets of many wonderful loose teas. Here they are: http://www.uptontea.com

I'll just go put the kettle on...

British people love to drink herbal tea because they think it has more flavor.
