Or is it just about what your parents were?

Obviously yes. How often is the Muslim religion praised in the U.S.? How often in say, Iran? If one religion is all you know, all you are exposed to, all that is praised by the people you look up to, and all that surrounds you though your entire life, that religion will be the one you follow. There are a few exceptions, but you would have to be ignorant to believe otherwise.

I think that your location does tend to determine your basis of religion. Some people are in a predominately catholic region so they will prob. be catholic. It also has to do with your parents as well. If your dad is a knicks fan then you prob. be a knicks fan too, if your mom is buddhist then you prob. be buddhist too. I think it's when we grow up and ask questions that we really are able to be true to any religion on our own. The bible says in Acts 17 though that we are placed in the right place at the right time so that we can find God and perhaps draw near to him though he is not far off. Pretty cool

Neither, at least for me.

I became a seriously practicing Catholic about 4 years ago, at the age of 37.

At the time, I was living 8,000 miles away from my family in a country where only about 1% of the population is Christian. The country was Japan, to be exact.

Yes, initially, but as one matures views may change, unless one lives in a closed community where outside thoughts are weeded out and independent thinking is discourages.

hard saying , i mean there were holy rollers in my community and I'm sure Muslims fit in there too somewhere but basically what determined what i believe in is what i heard about Jesus . cause my parents were catholic and my brother went to ccd , but i went to a baptist church .
