What was the last act of total kindness, generosity and compassion that you practiced, and how long ago was it? I'm looking for acts that have no direct "payoff" to you (like making a donation because it's a tax writeoff doesn't count). Something that you're doing for no reward other than the goodness inherent in the act itself.

As usual with all my questions, please be respectful and mature- no flames. Thank you :)

Echimob: I hate to break the news to you, but your big long post isn't the answer to every question in the R&S board. Sorry.

Cindy: I understand your point. I was just looking to inject a bit of positive energy into this otherwise negatively charged forum. I've read these posts, most of them could use a bit more kindness in their lives.

This is kind of embarrasing. I was visiting a relative at a nursing home when this elderly woman, Doris (that I'd never seen before, but had recently moved in) mistook me for her son, Jacob. I must have spent 3 hours talking to her and reminiscing about our past together. She was so happy that I didn't have the heart to tell her the truth, so I played along with her. I'm not sure if this would fall under the category of kindness or not. I found out later that Jacob had died several years ago.

A few days ago there was aeuropean meeting of educations ministers in Athens, near where i live. The policemen blocked alla the roads near the hotel the meeting wAs held at for three whole days and i had to drive ten more km to go to work. The policemen where rude sometimes and didndt give me proper instructions and i'm not all that police-friendly, i must admit. Nonetheless, I felt sorry for them sitting all day under the hot sun guarding men that arent really worth it and i brought them several bottles of cool water.
Oh and although last night i stayed up until 2:30 am working , i got up today at seven in the morning so that a friend could leave his car in my garage. (it'a impossible to find a parking slot where i live and he had to go shopping near by. Why he had to do that at 7:00 am i do not know!)

I helped a lady who had a load of cardboard boxes when it was raining. We were at Sams and it was pouring down rain. I offered to watch the boxes so she could go get her car and then I loaded the boxes into her trunk so they wouldn't get soaked in the rain.
This was sometime last week.
I've done stuff since, but all really general stuff like letting people out in traffic.

My last act was a few days ago a kid new to our area and without many friends was waiting with my kids for the ice cream truck...i saw how much she wanted some, but she told me she had no money...so i gave her some, and she bought herself, her sister and her brother some also...personaly i think that was a good deed, not me giving her the money, but the fact that she thought of others first.

Well if I told you, that would be sort of like getting recognition for it so I cant.

Random acts of kindnesss are to be done for the reasons you stated, but the simple act of telling someone about them, would take away the very reason that we do them.

If you were to ask what some act of kindnessess that one might be able to do for another, I bet that question would get lots of answers.

Did you watch a certain Liberty Mutual commercial recently?

I don't keep track of my acts of kindness. Perhaps I should.
