I am fixing to adopt a 9 year old boy and 10 year old girl.

We have no biological children. No friends who are close to us with kids.

What is "cool" and what do kids like at those ages?

Thanks!

At that age kids are still a little open with the parents. Since you will be adopting them, I want to say first off I think that is great! First see if you can ask the adoption agency that you are going through if they know what the kids are into right now. Mine are into, Boys: Video games, computer games, the movie "CARS" by Disney, his bike, and roller blades. Girls: are a little harder. My daughter who is 11 likes Bratz dolls, crafts and scrapbooks, High School Musical, roller skates, and my daughter likes her bike too. If you find out what they are into, you can decorate their rooms to fit their personalities. Also, here is the advice I give to all my friends and family that are about to be parents. Having kids is not only the hardest job in the world, but it is the best job too. Remember, we make mistakes as parents just like kids make mistakes. As long as you learn from them, like you hope your kids will, everything will work out in the long run.

I have a 10-yr-old boy who is more mathematical than most, so I don't know how that influences his interests. He's really into Lego, video games (especially Pokemon,) YuGiOh game cards, and stuff he can build/take apart. He LOVES to spend time by the water, examining the rocks & shells. He also likes to spend time playing around with GarageBand (a music progarm on Macs.) As a result of that, he's been asking about keyboard lessons, but mostly, he just plays with the voices & plinks around.

He rides his bike anywhere I'll let him (we have FRS radios, so I can keep track of him!) Our cel provider offers a kid cel phone where the parent can pre-program just 4 numbers, and it can't call any other; I may get him one of those soon, since he's ready to test the reach of our radios!

He also loves playing games as a family: Monopoly, checkers, chess, dominoes, Uno, and lately, Backgammon.

Congratulations on your adoptions! That is wonderful!

Any age child loves for you to do things with them do NOT just buy them toys that are "cool or in" take them to the movies and get to know thier individual likes and dislikes, just because twenty ten year olds like pokemon does not mean he will or she will. Teach them to get along with eachother and to stick up for one another if they are not realted , and make sure that they know you are there for them and will love them no matter what! The rest I promise you will fall into place!!! If you want to decorate thier rooms for instance find out what they like.. Things will go smoother than you think. You have allready done the best thing for them by adopting them!!! This shows you are a great human being which I am sure is bound to have good sense,Things will work out for you!!! GOD BLESS YOU!!!!

Im not 9 or 10. But when I was 9-10 I liked computer games and other games the most. I was crazy about them. Also liked playing outdoor games. And thats about it. Other things he\she might like movies, cartoons (I still like them at 18), etc.

Well i'm 14, but my sister is 9; she loves gamecube, tomagotchi, && most of all our trampoline ((which i love too)). Kids that age also need sports; my sister does soccer, horseback riding, and swimming. When i was that age, i did gymnastics, and soccer. Sports are a must, because they channel all that energy, and allow kids to make new friends. Instruments are also great- i played flute and piano, and my sister plays piano and just started french horn.

hope this helps, && good luck!!! xox

the most important those kids must feel homely abt u as their parents. They r of such a age where they can onderstand that u r not their actual parents and any wrong action of theirs will hurt them like anything.
Speaking of likes of boys atleast i can tel u that a couple of toys, good frnds to make and a good part of time to spend with parents i.e. u must spend a good deal of time with the kids.
