It's not the bathing and grooming, its the dry time. They don't like to let a dog go until the coat is completely dry. Water dogs have an undercoat that take a little longer to get to that point.

Labs tend to have thick coats that take a long time to dry. Afterwards the groomer *should* be spending time brushing out the loose coat, trimming the nails and cleaning the ears. Some labs have *lots* of loose coat and take a while to get it out.
More than likely the groomer is also working on other dogs while your dog is drying. This helps keep the cost of your grooming down, if the groomer had to spend time drying your dog by hand she wouldn't be able to do as many dogs and would have to charge more per dog.

Most likely it doesn't take four hours just to groom him. They probably tell you that because of the other dogs they have to groom also. Also if they bathe them, it make take some time for them to dry. Of course, you could always ask them why the four hour time limit.

I doubt if the grooming is what took so much time--my husband and I can wash, brush, and trim my chocolate lab's nails within a half hour, and she's still happy. More likely, they had other dogs ahead of you.

they clean every single part of the dog's body. As in everything. They even clean the inside of the butt. They brush it's teeth. Give it a haircut. And they cut the doggs nails if its hella long. AND they blow dry the fur (whats the point) just like a day where u gots to clean your self and stuff like that at home.

it takes four hours to groom a dog because you have to make sure it clean and to get rid of all the fleas on them. you need to make them clean as possible because the dog is your representative it's a part of you know so clean it as well as you clean after yourself

4 hours is not bad for your breed.
It takes a lifetime to groom siberian huskies.

Probably does not. They just have other dogs too, and they have to do all of them in the same day, so they say longer so you wont come earlier.
