Did you allow the butter to soften on its own, or was it melted to speed the process? Melted butter and softened butter are not the same and will change the consistency of any batter.
Was the brown sugar packed tightly? Not enough brown sugar could have made the batter a little thinner than usual.
Was a tablespoon of vanilla accidentally used instead of a teaspoon? That's happened to me before. You wouldn't think that such a small amount of liquid could change the batter much, but it can.
What size egg did you use? Using extra-large eggs in addition to a slight measuring mishap described above could throw your batter consistency off.
Did you decide to leave the nuts out? Nuts can be very absorbent...and leaving them out of a recipe formulated with nuts could make the batter thinner than usual.
I'm not trying to insult your intelligence with these suggestions -- I just went down the list of ingredients to see what could happen if something was mis-measured or omitted. I've had this sort of thing happen to me before. Try baking one cookie and see the results before tossing the whole bowl down the drain. If they don't turn out with the right consistency, try putting the cookie dough in a mini-muffin pan and make cookie "cups." The form of the mini-muffin would help to keep your dough from spreading out and it may turn out to be a very tasty cookie!

If you add more flour it'll be less runny but you should cook a few runny ones first before you change the recipe.

Increase flour to 3 cups and only use one egg. That's one messed up recipe yo! Use bitter sweet chocolate instead of the yucky semi sweet

What kind of butter did you use? The recipe calls for butter, so you should use butter. if you used margarine (especially diet margarine) it contains a good deal of water and could have made your batter runny. Butter is better!

I find that all the nestle recipes are not very good. Try Hershey's.com. Everthing I have made from there is great and easy to make.

Did you put in enought flour? It's 2 cups, plus another 1/4 cup - the only thing I could see that you might have done is put in 1/4 cup two times. But it's two-and-a-quarter cups.
Am I right?
