I use a couple of free programs that seem to block just about all ads and keep out spyware too.
go to these sites:
http://www.snapfiles.com/download/dlspywareblaster.html

http://www.lavasoft.com/

at the first site, spyware blaster works great
at the second site, adaware (the free version) works great too.

I use both.

With a popup blocker, many times you will not be able to click on a link that opens up in a little window... that's because it's being blocked by the popup blocker.... BUT, you can get around that by using the CTRL key as you click the link. The CTRL key allows the popup to appear.

Ads are one of the most annoying creations.
