I'm not sure if someone can be addicted to depression, but when you have it for a long time, and you're used to being depressed its hard to get used to being happy.
I once heard someone say that sometimes patients who have terminal illnessnes will want to get better, but sometimes when there is a way to get around death, they don't exactly respond with joy. Its not that they don't want to live, but they became used to the idea that they were going to die. They became defined by that fact, and now that it is no longer true, they have to change their way of thinking and feeling.
So maybe its similar with depression. Those of us who are depressed for so long become defined by it. The way we see the world, how we react to other people, even if it is in a bad way, is largely influenced by the depression. So when the depression is no longer a factor, it means that the person you though you were is now different and you have to rediscover yourself, which in itself can be a frightening thing. So its ironic, but in that case it is normal that you would look to the depression for 'comfort' simply because its the only thing that is familiar.

I think you need to evaluate what it is bout depression that you feel you are addicted to... The sterotypical situation that most people would see in this question is that you could be addicted to the sympathy and attention you might recieve in telling people you're depressed.
But also there is an almost nostalgic feeling or an apprehension to feeling better because it's uncomfortable or not our reality... We seek familiarity and if you've been depressed for some time, that is your familiarity even though it's painful.

It isn't so much addiction to depression (that would be way too simplistic, after all who wants to feel this bad). Depression isn't just "the blues" but it can be hell on earth, and the result for many has been suicide in order to escape the feelings of despair.
I think that what you may not want to let go of is probably an injustice committed against you where you see no resolution. We all have such issues as nobody has ever escaped someone else's injustice. Sometimes you have to choose whether you want to hold on to it and get some satisfaction, or let go of it and move on with your life.
Make an appointment and talk to someone who may be able to help you put those issues in perspective.

it sounds to me like you LIKE to be depressed, you're not so much of an addict. I mean, i LIKE to be happy so I try to stay that way, not because I'm addicted to being happy, but that's just the state i like to be in. There is a solution, get help whether it be therapy, confiding in a friend, or just finding something that makes you happy. There is also medication that your doctor can prescribe to you. Good luck

You spoke of a vampyre fetish in another question. Having gone thru a similar stage when I was young...it is what you are surrounding yourself with. Blackness, the kind of music you are listening to and so on. These types of things lends itself to depression and all things melancholy.
Depression is what you have now familiarized yourself to. It is what you are used to..so it is hard to see a way out. You need to open your mind, eyes to different things. Things that aren;t about sad, black, vampyres and you may find that you can be uplifted and may break this depressive cycle you are on.
Look around you, listen to the news, read the paper about all the things going wrong in the world and realize, things aren't as bad. It is soemtimes easier to stay stuck then to open ourselves to new things...
Be brave, go ahead do something you wouldn;t normally do. Go outside your comfort zone and see the possibilities.....they are out there.

I wouldn't go so far as to say you addicted to depression, but it makes sense that you have gotten so used to it that you like being depressed. I understand how you feel, when i go through my depressive states, it is hard for me to want to be happy. Maybe you have a deep need to make yourself be in pain, like a masachistic nature, that it is easier to deal with the pain you are used to then to try to get out of it. May i suggest counseling, it helped me in the past. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to see a doctor and therapist who can give you a thorough evalution, and get you on meds to make it easier for you to want to be happy and be able to become happy.

There are numerous people who would make fun of the prospect of altering their fates. This is because it believes that nobody gets more that what is written in his fate.
