This advice goes out to you and everyone else.

When you get a call like this you should inform them to remove your personal details from their records/database immediately! They have a legal duty to do this if you ask them to.

If they refuse to for any reason, tell me about them and I'll sort 'em out.

:-)

OMG i get about 6 - 10 calls EVERY night and i have now got to the oint where iturn the ringwer off on my phone. However, there is a number you can call and get your phone number taken off their lists. It takes a couple of weeks but it does work.
What i find most annoying is when i try to be polite and explain that i have a contract mobile, or that i do not want to switch my land line and they keep on and, i'm afraid to say, i have lost my temper with them a few times and shouted and trhen slammed th ephone down!

Yes they are a real nuisance. I keep on telling them Im not actually at home, please try later. I wouldnt recommend calling them back as the calls would be charged at a higher rate. But thanks for the good info, very informative.

Ioptions will be
1. Kindly remove my personal details from your records, im not interested
2. This is illegal and your call has now been reported

This website below, prevents you from getting any rubbish calls if you register with them, if you are in uk

The artical in the guardian is quite funny( see website below), once you realise its a cold caller ( just pretend you have had a silent call - saying hello? hello? anybody there? Who is it - act scared!!and put the phone down and dont answer it the second time it goes!)

I love cold callers!

You can have great fun with them. My favourite options are
1) to repeat everything they say,
2) to talk using as few words as possible, instead using noises (mmhmm, aah, ooh)
3) pretend to be an answering machine
4) talk like darth vader
5) pretend you rang them and try to order a pizza

I think there are some brilliant answers on this one!!!

My favourite is to say yes to everything, then leave the phone on the side (quietly) then go make a cup of tea.........they do eventually hang up! he he he

Cold calling is illegal. If anyone rings me like that, I remind them, they get off the phone pretty quickly.

Thanks for the 0800 number, it might be useful, but I hope they do not call me.

If you don't want cold calls, type "telephone preference service" into google.co.uk, and check out the website.
It takes a few weeks, but the cold calls will stop
