My professor has assigned me an essay in which I must persuade my reader that television violence leads to aggressive and violent tendencies and behavior in today’s youth. To support my thesis I have decided to make mention about recent school shootings, as many “experts” blame the media for teenagers’ decisions to carry and use guns to resolve their problems. However, I do not desire to make it seem that the media is the only reason that today’s youth is evolving such behavior, I want to know what other people think about the whole thing. Do you agree that the media is to blame or do you think and believe that there is some other factor that has yet to be explored?

I think people in school are mean and cruel to each other. people pick and tease others . they call people names and teachers do nothing about it. the kids that shoot people are on their last straw or nerve. they want the abuse to stop and think that is the only way to shut the abuse up. if the students would be taught to act nicer or punished for abusive actions, there would be less shooting. we need justice!!! students need to grow up and quit being so mean to others and then cause them to try to stop the abuse. I hope someone teaches help someday.

My son got the same essay.

Study after study has shown that there is no overwhelming evidence of this, that violent actions (whether movies, TV, video games, radio shows, comic books, dime novels) causes aberrant behavior overall.

You cannot determine for specific individuals.

True, the media can give ideas (everytime the movie "Fuzz" gets aired, there is a rash of homeless people burnings; some idiots tried to replicate the road stunt in "the Program" and got run over), but we can only measure negative behavior.

There seems to be no mechanism is place for tracking positive behavior. (How many teens did not get pregnant last year, as they we smart about their sexual relations?)

And any expert that you find that says "TV is bad", you can find one that says "TV is good" and contradicts the other.

The bad guys prefer unarmed victims!!.
When seconds matter calling 911 and asking the bad guy to wait is not a viable option.

Better to have a gun and not need it than to need it and not have it!!!
**Police do not protect you from crime, they usually just investigate the crime after it happens.**

So you are against the private ownerships of gun! Do you believe in fire extinguishers? Why, you can always call the fire department!!

Media is part of the blame cause there also has to be some other personal problems to cause the anger.

Honestly you have to look at the parents. Of course parents don't know everything their kids do, but it is the job of a parent to talk to their children and see whats going on. Also, Cildren don't have privacy so searching rooms is not a crime. Though parents may not like what they find, its better safe than sorry. Also parents should know about who their children "hang out" with, and what "hanging out" consists of.
