I agree with your first answer, you should keep food out for them at all times. They may over eat some at first but that will not last. They will learn that it will always be there.

I would say feed her 1/4-1/2 cup of dog food three times a day then change it to just two times a day as she gets older

Pups have small stomachs so need to be fed little and often. It is best to give your pup set mealtimes as feeding ad hoc can lead to an overweight pup.
Feeding regime
8-12 weeks: four meals daily
12-16 weeks: three meals daily
16-24 weeks: 2-3 meals daily

one small bowl a-day.
If she's eating more and getting very big (wide, fat) lower the bowl too about a little more than half.
YOU CANNOT JUST LET A 12 WEEK OLD PUPPY EAT ANYTIME.
they will eat whenever they are bored, just like kids, you'll find you waste alot of food if you feed them non-stop.
as she grows, increase the bowl size, a full grown lab needs a bigger bowl of food, and a decent amount of water, but they don't need to be fed non-stop.
But, a dog will let you know whenever it is hungry, just like a child.

you want to bypass by using his weight, on maximum credible dogs meals they have a feeding chart on the back. yet in case you imagine hes not getting adequate or too a lot, enhance/shrink the feeding quantity subsequently. Now his diarrhea will be from the dogs nutrition, you ought to attempt switching to a unique type, i'd propose purina pup chow or Iams. Thos are good manufacturers and ive not in any respect had any problems with them.
