I juts had my daughter first birthday party. I kept it small, to not overhwelm her. The best part was giving her the cake. The pictures are great!

When my first son turned a year old,we had a two othere babies close to his age and another little girl that was a couple of years older.I didn't want a lot of people,as it would have been pointless and overwhelming. It was very simple.I had a sheet attached to the curtain rod in the living room with the other end hooked to the ceiling.I filled it with balloons, had the kids stand under it and dropped the balloons on them. They LOVED that.It wasn't too much for them, but they thought it was fascinating and played with the balloons for a long while.Just pick one thing that your baby likes and make it the main focus.Do it bigger to make it special, but don't overdo it to the point of making it scary. And I wouldn't recommend any other planned activities.Aside from the one special thing, just let them do whatever they choose to do next.Just keep them safe and they'll figure out the rest.(if you have older children there,it's a good idea to have something for them to do.Something they can do around babies, but not for the babies)

Keep it short and small. Too long and too many people will easily overwhelm baby and make her fussy.

For foods, pick some simple not messy snack foods that
the kids can feed themselves. Cheese, lunchmeat, pickles, cheerio type cereals, cookies

It's always cute to let the baby feed themselves their cake, and most grocery stores will make a tiny one especially for the baby if you order a larger one for the rest of the guests. Have them eat the cake outside on some plastic so they can be hosed off later.

A little pool party with a luau theme is fun, and the baby(ies) look cute in leis.

Have fun!!

The baby doesn't need one. He'll be sleep, crabby and clueless as to what is going on. 1 yr old birthdays are not for the child, but for you the parent. So, if you want a first birthday that your child will remember, wait until they are 3 or so.
