Sounds like you've got the right idea. He needs a Pediatric Gastroenterologist to do a barium swallow. My son had this done at age 2. This study can detect multiple problems in the esophagus, stomach, etc. My son had a spastic opening to his stomach and that caused the reflux/vomiting. They prescribed Reglan and Zantac, which in my opinion didn't help much. It just had to mature and close on it's own, which it did in about a year.

Yes, they can do xrays very young, too. My son had his first chest xray at an hour old. The next one was at 7 months, and so on...

Good luck, your grandson is very lucky to have such a smart, involved grandma.

There are many reasons for this. Get a consult to a pediatric gastroenterologist or one that accepts children. If there is no significant weight loss, keep in mind he might be using this behavior as an attention getting behavior. Totally ignore the behavior for 3 days ie no hugging, being upset, or acknowledgment of any kind.Good luck and I hope this gets resolved soon. His doctor doesn't seem to be that impressed.Yes, chest x-rays are possible for newborns. Relax. The cause will be revealed.

You most definitely need to find another doctor. I'm sorry but this can be a very serious health condition. If your doctor does not want to send you to a pediatric gastro specialist, find one yourself. Does he turn blue around his lips? Do you have custody of your grandson or does he live with his parents? I would like to give more information but the guidelines will not let me.

ohh that is really bad... what i can say is notify your doctor about all of this.. and keep him on watch and if it is like this the doctor can't just keep prescribing medication he needs to be at the hospital under treatment and supervision., run tests,etc...
Good luck i hope he gets better.*
