What topic? Modena is good for math and medicine. Bologna is good for just about anything. Rome for politics and international relations, parma for economics.

I have studied in Padova and Bologna. If you speak Italian anywhere in the North would be fine for you. I usually strongly recommend Bologna for the great environment 100,000 students in a 700,000 people city. Bologna is close to Florence, Venice, Rome, Milan. Everything is within 3 hours by train. University of Study of Bologna is the world oldest university which is very fascinating.
Good luck whenever you go.

Do you know Italian? If not, then you would want to make that your first focus, yes? Then I suggest going to Perugia in Umbria. There is a University for "strangers" otherwise known as foreigners, where you can study Italian with many others from all over the world. It's fun!

I study in Camerino, it is a small town in the centre of Italy and there are these faculties:

- science (natural sciences, geology, biology, chemistry, maths, physics, biotecnologies...)

- law

- architecture (but it is located in Ascoli Piceno)

- veterinary medicine (but it is located in Matelica, about 20 minutes from Camerino)

- pharmacy (pharmacy, pharmaceutical chemistry and tecnology...)

I study pharmaceutical chemistry and tecnology that lasts 5 years as pharmacy and veterinary medicine. The others last 3 years and then you can decide if you want a specialization of 2 years. There are a lot of foreigner students, especially from Greece, and everyone is available to help you with the language. You can have economic subsidy, it depends from your familiar income or from your marks.

Italy is one of the oldest - if not the oldest - University country, and most cities are proud of their own contribution. Not all offer the same level though - you really have to choose depending on the subject you plan to take.

And, last but not least, courses are offered exclusively in Italian, and fluent, appropriate Italian is required everywhere.
