Everyone always says "If you have a little body fat, don't do situps, it will look like more fat", but other people say "Do situps to burn body fat". What should I do? How do I get rid of my body fat? Who should I listen to? Does doing situps make me look fatter or does it lose the fat and give me a 6pack? Im 12 yrs old, 80 lbs.

sit-ups, curl-ups, crunches, leg raises, etc... are exercises to build strength in your abdominal muscles. None of these will burn body fat. Cardivascular exercise like running, swimming, and jogging will help with this. Doing abdominal exercises will not make you look fat. Only fat makes you look fat. So I would encourage you to do both abdominal exercises and cardiovascular exercises.

You're 12, and 80 pounds. You're right on target with your weight. You're not fat, but if you still want help. I can advise you to try Pilates. There is an exercise called the "100". It works better than situps, and is less painful. Alot of celebrities do it, and so do I. Fast result! Best results come out in 36 weeks, but you can tell the difference the second week. Remeber Pilates "100". Look it up on the internet. Believe me. It tones your body, and if done long enough it can result with muscles. Try it.

Actually, it's not true that sit-ups don't "burn fat" -- any time you build more muscle mass (which sit-ups will do), you burn more calories even when you are sitting still. So, yes, sit-ups or other ab work is a good idea (be careful to do ab exercises correctly, though, to avoid back problems).

But even better is a more well-rounded exercise routine. Try doing sit-ups every other day, but also work on other muscles in your body as well (upper body, legs, butt, etc.). You can find lots of videos/DVDs that have beginner strength training stuff on them. And on alternate days, go for a brisk walk or do some other kind of cardio exercise. But no, no, no, doing sit-ups is NOT going to make you look fatter! It's going to make you healthier and stronger!

Sit ups will only increase the muscles under the fat, but it won't make you burn the fat. Only cardio can do that. Do sit ups, push ups and squats. Also include jogging for 3 days out of the week for the cardio or even better, jump rope inbetween sets.

You are a bit too young and underweight to think you have body fat. Just stay fit if you are really worried, don't sit around all day watching TV, playing on the computer, or playing video games. Instead go for walks, play sports, and stay active.

Doing situps makes you lose fat only in you mid section area. If you really want to lose weight, train with me for one day and you will be in the best shape of your life. Even if it isn't anywhere near as good as the shape i'm in and my abs of masterpiece.
