so what, then, does "Messiah" mean to you?
and why couldn't Mohammad come up with another word?

The Holy Qur'ân 2:87)
"O Mary! God giveth thee glad tidings of a Word from Him: his name will be Christ Jesus, the son of Mary..." (3:45)
"...Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) an apostle of god..." (4:171)

okay, now tell me that's not in the Quran

Those quotes are from the Yusuf Ali translation. The Pickthal and Shakir translations do not use the word 'Christ'. They do say 'Messiah'. It is my understanding that they use the word 'Messiah' in reference to Jesus because of the special role Jesus will play in fighting the Anti-Christ (Dajjal) - in other words, they have a slightly different perspective of what Messiah means.

Note: the Aramaic word משיחא apparently originally meant 'one appointed _as a Prophet_: Muslims do accept Jesus as a Prophet. It seems that it's just a semantical question of what 'Messiah' really means.

Jesus is the Messiah.....He is the Lord of Lords and the all Mighty everlasting living God....there is no other God by which one is saved......Jesus is Christ ...Christ meaning Messiah.....notice how in the Word of God no one else is called the Christ....there is a reason for that.....because Jesus is the Messiah the Christ for all mankind.....He is Savior of the world...no matter how much it is debated or how much it is rejected it will never change ..
peace

He is the Messiah (he peace be upon him is called Al-Maseeh Isa son of Maryam in the Noble Quran). If you think that the Messiah means savior or son of God, then you have your beliefs and we have ours.

muslims don't call him Christ nor dos the Qur'an, we just call him Jesus. if we do say christ it is usually done when talking to Christians. The Qur'an calls him by name Isa which is arabic for the name jesus like yusuf if joseph, musa is moses, dawud is david.
