Hmm. Definitely depends on your perspective. If the South had won it would have been the Confederate Revolution, but unfortunately for the South, the winners get to write the history. A Civil War is a war between two factions in the same country, but the South believed that they were no longer citizens of the U.S. So many Southerners think of it as a failed revolution. Then again, many also believe that it was fought over state's rights and not slavery, so what do they know? Living in the South there are many terms for the war - The War of Secession, the War of Northern Aggression, The War Between the States, and my favorite, the "Late Unpleasantness"

Yes. The fact that this war was instigated by an election and created two presidents who were represented the same area means it had to be a civil war. If you prefer, a failed revolution, as the North was always in the right (both morally and legally).
