I think the answer to this question is really pretty complicated, but I'll give it a shot.

One reason the US government officials drew the focus of the American public toward Iran might be that Iran was expected to back down quickly and quietly. The "Top Dogs" in the White House and Department of Defense all know that NK is a much bigger threat than Iran. I think the hubbub against Iran was a publicity move designed to play on the current anti-muslim and anti-Arab sentiment in America. (If you don't think this exists, I challenge you to ask 10 military service members if they trust Arabs.) Iran was expected to snatch up the "incentive plan" put forth by the EU, and jump at the chance to sit at the negotiating table with Dubya, and the White House scores brownie points with the US public.

On the other hand, North Korea is a real threat. They have been planning for another war with the US for 60 years. They have experience fighting our forces. They have nuclear weapons, and have expressed their willingness to use them. They are openly hostile and have stated that they will interpret even sanctioning as a declaration of war. Even without China's help, the North Koreans can put up one hell of a resistance if the US decides to do something. The US does not have the leverage necessary to force NK to do what we want. Therefore, American policy makers will try to steer the public attention away from a situation they are unable to adequately respond to.

The US is focusing on both Iran and North Korea; however, the media only reports what's hot at the time. Don't be fooled by the article, though. North Korea could not successfully fight the US using conventional means. They would have to use nuclear weapons, which is why you won't see China support them if a war broke out against the US. The author has overestimated the abilities of the Korean conventional forces.

As so many of their actions show, most politicians are total idiots. I won't say the idea of Iran with nuclear weapons doesn't make me nervous, but North Korea makes me *much more* nervous.

However, after the terrorist attacks on 9/11, all many short-sighted people can think of is fearing every country that shares a religion with the terrorists. I admit, Iran has sponsored terrorism, but they are not fools, and are not likely to hand over nuclear weapons to terrorists unless they are given some very strong reason to do so.

The biggest danger in Iran developing nuclear weapons lies in the possibility that they might, *in the future*, be led by a madman. North Korea is *already* led by a madman.

But, most people are worried about terrorists, so they shake when they hear the name "Iran" - the politicians want to keep them calm, so they focus on Iran. If they cared about keeping the US *safe*, they'd worry about North Korea first.

ok then perhaps you should reread your article. how many fights have you been where you got the crap beat out of you. Now how many of those would you take the guy on a second time knowing the result would be pretty much the same but you get information saying the guy is the main contender for the WBO boxing title. would you pick on him or his cousin, who has been in only a few fights but has never beaten you. Plus if you win he will pay you with oil which fight would choose.
almost guaranteed win or almost guaranteed loss or heavy death toll.
nobody wants a repeat of the first korean war.

Because China should handle North Korea. China is the responsible faction for the Asian world and the USA needs to let them handle it in their way. I'm worried about it, too, but we already have a full plate with the Arab world issues. We need China to step-up and control the situation and they seem to be doing that. Unfortunately, not any better than we are handling Iran.

Corporate interest are very much interested in building a pipeline that runs through Pakistan and all those areas.

I believe that the president of Iran threatened of switching the dollar to Euro, which would put us in pretty deep trouble economically. From what I have heard and read, our dollar is fiat and has no value. Our dollar is no longer backed up gold & silver, but oil. Anything that disrupts oil flow, dollar goes down. That's my opinion.

Because Iran is going to use they're nukes on Israel and start world war 3, North Korea could be wiped off the map, by lunch time by the US.
