I wouldnt worry about it as long as its not affecting your day to day life. Most young people like to endulge in alcohol and go through that phase so youre not alone.

The hallmark of the alcoholic is once they start they cannot stop, no matter what. Period. Some people use alcohol to unwind, some to relax for a romantic mood and as long as it is not a self identified problem, there is no problem, unless of course the law and family start to notice problems.
Let me give an example, when I was 23 I found myself drinking as a social event. And I went to AA for help, but left due to some principles I could not adjust my thinking too. I continued drinking, sometimes to the point of excess and sometimes just a glass of wine with dinner. This was functional, my duties were met and I enjoyed having fun. Later in life I developed a real addiction and again found help in AA, and now, I cannot, nor do I want to drink even one drink as it leads me to the other addiction. Do I miss it at times, yes and no, it does help me relax in groups I don't know and it allows my mind to unwind and enjoy the event, whatever that might be. But no, thanks to AA, as you will see in my avatar, I have not found a drink necessary since May 22, 1999. It took work and some are sicker than others, but anyone can apply the principles to their life and become happy with or without the drink.

If you are finding it difficult to stop drinking once you start, then you do have a problem. Is it as a matter of choice that you keep drinking once you have had the first drink, or is it because you crave more?
An alcoholic is a person who's drinking is out of control - who cannot cope without it. Most people become alcoholics because it drowns out the pain of something, ie a bereavement or loss of some kind, a divorce, or some kind of ongoing difficulty in their lives.
If you cannot control your drinking, then yes, you are an alcoholic. If this is the case, I suggest that you seek professional advice and either through your Doctor or AA you are referred to an agency that will help you deal with your addiction. The 12 step programme is excellent, but you would need to committ yourself to it.
I trust this helps you!

Like most people you are learning your limits, that doesn't make you bad or an alcoholic, such a convenient label just so someone can feel superior. Please know that if you are not using alcohol for a crutch, depressed, sad, anxiety etc. and actually enjoy the buzz you are in my opinion fun. After a while you will calm down a little bit. I used to be like you and just learned my limits, do not drive and do not wake up regretting what you did the night before, more than a couple of times. I will think of you tonight when I have a nice martini.

Have you ever felt you should Cut down on your drinking?
Have people Annoyed you by criticizing your drinking?
Have you ever felt bad or Guilty about your drinking?
Have you ever had a drink the first thing in the morning to steady your nerves or get rid of a hangover (Eye opener)?

Being an alcoholic is not about the frequency of your drinking episodes, it is about how much you drink when you do drink. In fact, I know someone that was diagnosed as being an alcoholic and they only drank bimonthly but when they went out to drink they were totally out of control...

If you don't want it constantly then you are not an alcoholic. I would say that you should be very concerned about not being able to stop drinking though...it could very easily turn into alcoholism.

That sounds more like impulsive drinking, or uncontrolled drinking. Alcoholism is more related to everyday drinking, or drinking to the detrement of other activities including, work and social situations.

It does seem like you have a drinking problem. One of the indications of alcoholism is the inability to stop drinking when you want to stop. There is a good self test here: http://www.counseling.caltech.edu/drug/selftest/test1.html
