It's because of the new "lingo". Soda fountains are now called Starbucks.

I miss ours. It had antique fixtures, a marble counter, an ancient cash register. It was located in an old pharmacy. They made phosphates, sodas, old fashioned sundaes and malts, and the best lemonade and lime-ade ever, all made right in front of you. They were in the old section of town, there was no place to park. They lost business, and finally closed. I did not know they were closing, and just happened to show up on the last day.
Our Kresge's dime store, closed many years ago, but I still remember the waitress Katie, they made the Cokes from the Coke syrup, then added the carbonated water. They bore no relationship to the Coke they sell now. Next door was another dime store, they had balloons with prices in them. Pop the balloon, and get a sundae at a discount, or for a penny, according to the bit of paper in it. Both places had a counter, and sold food and drink.
They tell me a newer store opened up near here that sells fountain drinks. I will wait and see if it is any good.
There are no more, and no copies, because it is expensive labor intensive, expensive to decorate, and like mine, gone due to lack of parking, they can't compete with the chains.

I have fond memories, also, of drinking a chocolate coke at the local Walgreens soda fountain. I guess they weren't making money once McDonald's took over the fast food industry. It's too bad, because they were fun!

I agree, and what happened to all the drive ins too? You could do good business if you openned up a drive in with a soda fountain.

yea soda fountains where cool.maybe you should buy a soda fountain at an antique store or something and ask a store near you if you could put it outside the store and you could probably make some money.

It costs the companies too much money. It's cheaper to just sell cans and bottles. You might want to find yourself a dictionary because you can't spell.

Times change. People weren't spending enough money there to keep them in business. Why don't you open one up and bring it back?
