http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/capable.mspx

Minimum:

* A modern processor (at least 800MHz1).
* 512 MB of system memory.
* A graphics processor that is DirectX 9 capable.
* A DVD-ROM drive

Premium:
* 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor.
* 1 GB of system memory.
* A graphics processor that runs Windows Aero.
* 128 MB of graphics memory.
* 40 GB of hard drive capacity with 15 GB free space.
* DVD-ROM Drive.
* Audio output capability.

these are the set-up that "could" run a vista but it didnt say that its gonna run fast with it. here are the requirements i think that could run a hassle-free vista.

a motherboard with pci-e slot and sata/sataII

a dual core processor [amd athlon64 x2, or an intel core duo] - why? vista's threading target is multi-core/dual-core

2/1ghz of ddr2 ram - why? just to make your applications run smooth too.

256mb PCI-e video card - why? CPU to display bitmaps on the screen while vista uses GPU to render vectors and to render the screen in the GPU, it requires a lot of memory, agp is good but it's only 8x transfer, pci-e has 16x transfer

160gb SATA HDD - why? applications nowadays demand more storage and so as pictures, videos and other files, why sata? cuz you already have fast hardware why not the harddrive? IDE drives transfers 450mbps (i think) and SATA drives transfers 1.5Gb/s while sataII transfers 3.0Gb/s

hope this would educate you about hardware-ready for vista

Hi

Vista requires High memory and processing speed. Now because you have P3, try increasing the RAM and see if you can install high speed RAM.

I would recommend atleast 1GB PC4200 RAM.

Thanks
