I had heard that certain sugars (the fake ones) cause your system to not behave the way it should because your putting chemicals into your body verses the real thing. Is this true? and if so, what kind of sugars and such should I be eating and using?

Splenda is a sugar molecule that has been chemically altered to prevent your body from processing the sweetner as calories. Because the hydrogen groups on the molecule have been replaced with chlorine groups, your body is no longer able to metabolize the molecule and use it for energy or store it as fat. However, because of the molecule's similarity to sucrose, the tongue still processes the interaction with splenda (sucralose) as a "sweet" sensation which it relays to the brain.

Unfortunately, Splenda is a relatively new product and no long term studies have been done on its effects on health. It has none of the health problems associated with aspartame and saccharin, however. Like anything, it will be fine for you in moderation.

Splenda in large quanities and any artificial sugar can cause medical problems that can lead to death. But a little a day is ok, eating 100 packs a day is probably not healthy.

Splenda is sugar with an extra link that makes it impossible for your body to digest. It just passes through you. Better living through chemistry.
