Food bank, Salvation Army, DHS (food stamps), churches (many host free meals on a rotating basis), grocery stores (give out free samples). In most cities, you can practically eat every meal free, no questions asked, if you planned it out right.

You can afford a home computer and an internet connection, but don't have money to eat? I think your priorities are screwed up.
However...check the web for local food banks. Many religous organizations run kitchens for people having difficulty obtaining food too.

Unfortunately, canning takes equipment and materials and cannot be done for free. Not to mention the food you want to can.

If you cancel your internet service, you can take the money you spent on that and go grocery shopping. Then you won't have to take a hand-out.
