I see no reason why the two should not be compatible. Where there is conflict it either means that we are misunderstanding the science or misunderstanding the religion (assuming the religion in question is true).
Hey, Isaac Newton was probably THE greatest scientist to ever live. He was very religious and saw the wonderful nature of the universe as testifying to G-d's existance and greatness. He wrote more on religion than he did on science! (And he wrote ALOT on science.)

Most scientists who believe only believe in a higher power of some sort, not the biblical God. I doubt science will ever accept religion. If religion relaxes its views on Creation, there is a chance it could accept science. I don't think we'll live to see that day.

Historically, religions have made many falsifiable asinine claims, that science later falsified. After a couple of hundred years, the religious people figure out a way to harmonize the new knowledge with their previous position.
- a clever scientist probably could have figured out how to do that in less than a year

The incompatibility comes when you only look at fundamentalist religion that sees the Bible as the literal, direct and unerring word of God, that sees things like the story of the creation and the flood to be literal truth. It is that which is in conflict with science such as evolutionary theory. Not all Christians believe the creation is literal truth and therefore, don't consider things like evolution and an Earth that's billions of years old as threatening to their worldview.

I have no problem with religion if it can evolve with modern science. I think 'God' can be a science too. Religion can exist with science but it must change. If you are stuck with old books old books only you will not go anywhere. Old books do have a lot of good stuff in them but somethings need to be changed.

RELIGION IS GERNERTERM FOR INDOCRINIZATION. EVEY ONE NEEDS TO HAVE SOME TYPE OF SPRITUAL ESSENCE ... IT THE COURAGE TO FACE YOUR ENEMIES; IT THE DICISION MADE AT THE MOMENT; SCIENTOLOGY IS THE STUDY OF SCIENCES. YET THERE ARE GREATER SCEINCES THAT WE UNDERSTAND. ACTUALLY TRUE MOTIVATED PASSIONATE SCIENTIST OF CREATION, GET THEIR BEST CLUE WHAT TO LOOK FOR NEXT FROM THE NEW THEOREYS OF SECULAR SCIENCE... A CREATIONIST SCIENTIST WILL TAKE NOTHING BUT WHAT IS ONE HUNDRED PERCENT VERIFYABLE........ ORIGNAL SCIENCE FEILDS DID NOT HAVE THE ADVANTAGE OF TECHNOLOGY AND TECHNOLOGY MULIPLIES IN A PYRIMID.
BEGIN AN ANTHPOLOGIST (WHICH PEER PSCYHOLOGISTS CAN RARELY DEFINE) I KNOW TRUE SCIENTISTS.... THOSE WHO ARE LOOKING FOR THE TRUTH AND MANY ARE PUTTING COLLECTIVE INFOMATION TOGETHER. THERE ARE SECULAR SCIENTIST WHO ACCEPT THE FLOOD AREAS AND THE PLUTONIUM HALO EVIDENCE OF PLANATARY CREATION IN THE INSTANT WORD." IT IS UNBELIVEABVLE....... DARWINISM WAS NEVER WHAT SCHOOLS TAUGHT; HE DID NOT WANT TO SHARE HIS KNOWLEDGE........ DARWIN DIED A CREATIONIST...... HE WAS A SCIENTIST; SHE STUDY TRUTH. THE MOST HIGHLY GPA RATED UNIVERSITIES THAT BELONG TO THE SDA CHURCH TEACH CREATIST SCIENCE. THERE ARE TONS OF EXACT UNDENABLE TRUTH. WE BELIEVE THAT TRUTH IS AVAILABLE TO ALL FOR FREE BUT THAT IF THEY DONT HAVE THE WISDOM TO LOOK FOR IT, .............?? OUR AMERICAN RED CROSS EQUIVALENT WAS IN SEMOLIA BEFORE REDCROSS AND ARE STILL THERE. "HOPE FOR HUMANITY" ADMINISTRATIVE AND OTHER COST TO OPERATED ARE PAID BY GENERAL BUDGET; AND EVER CENT THAT IS GIVEN TO HOPE FOR HUMANITY IS SPENT ON THE PEOPLE. WE DONT GIVE THEM A BANDAIN, BUILT A HOUSE AND TAKE OFF........... WE STAY, BUILD THE COMMUNITY AND HOSPITALS AND OPEN SCHOOLS AND EDLUCATION FROM HUMANITARIAN AND GLOBAL VIES. WE DO NO SEND MISSIONARIES TO SEMOLIA ON TEIR OWN. WE SEND HIGH QUAILIFIED PAID PROFESSION TO WORK AND REBUILD. THE NATIONAL SDA CHURCH RESPOND AND PEOPLE WILL COME AT THE MOMENT AND R COOPERATE. BUT AT THE TOP LEVER OF OUR CHURCH........ DONUTS AND LEXIS & THE EYE OF THE NEEDLE AND JUST AS MUCH SEXUALITY; EXCEPT OUR CHURCH TEACHES EARLY THAT SPIRITUAL MARRIAGE COUSELING IS 90 % S UCCESSFUL. WE HAVE A VERY LOW DIVORSE RATE..............AND MORE SCHOOL THAT ANY OTHER DENOMINATION. BUT WE ARE TOLD TO COME OUT OF THOSE CHURCH FOR THEY WEILL BETRAY THEIR OWN IN THE END. RELIGION IS A SCEINCE OF TRUTH AND ASSISTANCE TO OUR FELLOW MAN.

There are definitely scientists that believe in god but no, they often aren't compatible. The earth being 4.5 billion years old and 6000 years old at the same time just doesn't work.

There is so much history and science that back up the Bible. There are also so many scientific facts in the Bible that have been later proven to be true. So I think they go hand in hand.

Science may discover many things people don't know. But no scientist will ever discover something that God doesn't already know.
After all, God invented science....

ALL science is from God. Thus, ALL science is good.....
BUT, man has to muck every thing up. ALL of the trouble from the misuse of science is the result of man's screwing things up... Not from God.
If man would just stick his ego in his pocket and do with science what it is intended to do, make life great for us while we are in this mortal world, we would all be living in luxury.
