If it's your ownn original artwork, I think that's great. I'm 17 and I've only had one person pay me $40 for a picture I didn't even appreciate that much. So go for it.

...Unless you are working the black market.

I forget but Michaelangelo was working in Domenico Ghirlandaios' studio at about that age, wasn't he?

By the time Rembrandt and Jan Lievens found out they weren't
' University Material ' , they spared the Board at the University of Leyden the trouble of booting them out by becoming painters.

They couldn't have been too old when they entered Lastmans' studio. Probably not even eighteen. If they didn't sell it's probably because they weren't admitted into the Guilds at the time.

Who's to say they didn't sell something quietly on the side to a knowledgeable individual which might yet surface. The answer is, of course not! This isn't factory work, you know.

You are never too young or too old for art! I was selling professionally at your age! I got my first copyrights at the age of 14! I have just turned 20, I've never been to art school and I'm doing fine, I make more than anyone my age I personally know, so my answer is this: If you are going to sell your art do it with your WHOLE heart! Dont just give 10 percent...Give 110 percent! Even when you feel like giving up and crying, you have to push yourself a little bit further and a little bit harder! First of all you are not just a "stupid" little girl. I am an Art Teacher who teaches kids your age (6th, 7th & 8th grades). I wish that some of them loved art as much as you do! You go on and sell your artwork. While it is true that experience can make you better, better has to start from somewhere... It seems to me that as long as you have something to say with your art, you have the RESPONSIBILITY to SAY IT in spite those adults who - being so jealous of your talent - say that you are just a little girl. Remind them that YOU are their future! YOU GO GIRL!!
PS. - I will like to see some of your work on a gallery some day... Maybe even a virtual gallery... Let us know when you set one up so that we may enjoy your creations as well! And send my students to see your work...

Some little prodigy is selling her paintings for ten thoushands of dollars and she's 8. Go for it but stay true to what you like and what you do. If people are interested in your work great but don't let money dictate what artistic direction you'll take.
