To follow the Lords teachings, to praise him, to follow the truth and the way, to accept him into your heart, to live by his rules/teachings, to love your brothers as yourself.

I love this question, it is one of my favorites to answer.

FIrst remember that at the end, every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is LORD.

There will be no athiests in Hell, no nonbelievers, for all shall know and believe.

Faith without works is dead.

OK, here goes. Once you accept your need for salvation and pray the sinners prayer, you should feel such freedom and excitement. You want to tell everyone around you what you have just discovered.

Then comes the hard part. Reading the bible, re reading the bible, with this learning, comes the understanding that we must live our lives different than the ones around us. We must start living for GOD and not ourselves.

This is the work that James is speaking of. So if you believe, but still live as though you do not believe, your faith is not real, and is therefore dead.

A good simple quote to use the explain this is.

If you were on trial for the crime of being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you if you never took the stand in your own defense?

I hope there would be for me.

The ones that say "Lord, Lord..."
Matthew 7:21-23, King James Bible.
It is referring to the preachers that claim to have thought the word of God, they claim that they did God's work. But, they didn't. They went according to what they wanted. They misled the their congregation.

Read the rest of the verses.

Anyone can CALL Him Lord but the one that does His will is a true disciple. To DO His will is a little bit harder. Remember, the spirit of a person is willing, but the flesh is weak. It's a daily sacrifice that is filled with determination to be pleasing to God. I think you have to have a good knowledge of The Bible to know His will. But then hopefully you have friends as well as family to guide you on this matter also.

just accepting jesus as your savior isn't enough, you have to live a good life too.

for example, a serial rapist who accepts jesus (really accepts him) in prison a few years before he dies so he can get into heaven isn't getting in. but a person who lives a good life and accepts jesus along the way is getting into heaven. your deeds are important, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

its like the egyptians used to weigh the hearts of the dead. if it was lighter than a feather, it was good, and you were ok. seeing as bad deeds would weigh down your heart. incidentally, this is why in the bible it says that pharoah's heart was made of stone, ie, heavy, meaning that he was a bad guy.

so, actions are more important than empty words.

In the old testament, the will of the Father was to obey the ten commandments and all the rituals for Israel's people only. With the sacrific of Christ, the ten comm are enclosed within two commandments. They are to love God and only God and to love all mankind. If you have love, you will not kill, you will not steal, etc. So the will of God is to love him first and love all mankind.

Use the 5 senses we have to their best ability, which means there is no God after all. Otherwise he would have given us the ability to see, hear, touch, taste or smell him. We have no ability to be aware of him at all. Faith and imagine are the same thing. We don't imagine things and then claim they exist. Unless we want to be tied to a bed in a hospital.

In the context of the question... Only those who come to God in The Way He proscribes will receive God's free gift of Grace and mercey. And their Eternal Salvation. You can pray till the cows come home...whoop and shout amens to the moon...help all the little old ladies in the world accross the street.... it all dont mean a hoooot to God. if you do not come to Him in the way he proscribes.

To me it means that I call upon the Lord to guide me and direct me to complete His will here on Earth. If I call on the Lord, I am asking Him to use me for his purpose. That also means that I have faith that He will not misguide me in any way.
