Because the molecules that make up the upper atmosphere are the same size as the wavelength of blue light. This causes blue light to scatter more giving the sky its blue color. As the sun gets closer to the horizon (at sunrise or sunset) the sky looks more red because the light is scattered by more and more larger particles (dust, smog, etc) which more closely match the size of the wavelength of red light.

It most definately is not the reflection off the ocean and if the atmosphere absorbed everything but blue light then the only light we would see would be blue light. :-)

The sky isn't blue, it purely looks blue. The sky is obvious and sparkling - purely love it quite is at nighttime whilst the moon and stars shine with the aid of it without being altered of their colour. The blue sky colour is an optical phantasm - purely like a rainbow. A rainbow isn't a real merchandise whether the colours you spot are genuine. you are going to be able to make a rainbow with a backyard hose and a sprinkler head and the sunlight. The rainbow feels love it quite is genuine and actually there yet once you turn the water off the rainbow is going away. the explanation the rainbow has colors is via the fact the sunshine going right into a rain drop is refracted after it quite is carefully internally contemplated after it quite is refracted because it exits the drop. the perspective of refraction of the sunshine is colour based. That produces the rainbow's colors. word that the rainbow constantly looks opposite the sunlight. The sunlight should be at your back. in a matching way the blue colour of the sky is created everywhere in the sky and it looks like there's a real blue sky even with the incontrovertible fact that it is going away whilst the sunlight is going down. the article we call the blue sky is an optical phantasm. The blue sky colour is created whilst image voltaic shines for the time of the Earth's ecosystem for the time of the day. the ambience is oftentimes composed of oxygen, argon and nitrogen gasses. As image voltaic shines for the time of the atmospheric gasses a number of the sunshine is scattered in all guidelines by employing the very molecules of the gasses. This scattering technique, referred to as Raleigh Scattering is somewhat wavelength based. Blue easy is scattered in all guidelines approximately 10 cases as much as purple easy is scattered and so we see many times blue easy coming from the process the sky. The blue sky is easy scattered from the molecules interior the Earth's ecosystem… The rainbow is created by employing refraction of light interior of a rain drop.

the light from the sun passes through molecules in the atmosphere, (sunlight is made of many colors) it scatteres the light is all directions and since more blue light is scattered than anything else the sky looks blue. When the sun sets, blue gets lost and there are other colors like pink and red to see.

It is the the light reflecting off of the ocean, then that light is projected into the autmosphere, therefore we see it as blue.

Because the atmosphere absorbs every color of light except blue.....that is why you see blue because it's not absorbed....same concept for everything we see.
