I used to stutter a lot, too. I still do sometimes. I think about what i'm going to say, try not to get excited (as it seems to aggravate the stuttering) I started speaking really simple (small, unacademic words) then gradually moved to speaking a bit faster and using bigger words as i felt comfortable. It came with practice for me. I like that "reading poems" advice too though.

Think out the answer to any question BEFORE you start to speak. Most Stuttering is due to nervousness, and that occurs mostly while trying to answer a question. Think about the word you are going to say before you say it. You will speak a bit slowly, but it will improve.

Check out the Stuttering Foundation of America web site. You will find age appropriate information there. Libraries carry their materials and you can check to see if your library has any of their books or DVDs on their website. Streaming videos are available on the site, too.

I have a good friend who stutters, but it doesn't stop him. You probably need to stop worrying about it. I don't have any clinical answers, but my guess is you need a good friend to talk to and just practice... how about your family? Don't they help? Most mature people won't make fun of you, unless they are complete jerks, and I doubt they live in your state because I've met all the jerks in MY state! Good luck.

my cousin had that problem and he would practice in the mirror and try self control by saying words and sentences slowly. and he really worked hard on the words that gave him the most trouble. also he used alternative words and that helped. kinda like porky pig did on the cartoon.
